Where did it come from and who created it?

The app Musical.ly was bought in November 2017 by Chinese developer ByteDance, for markets outside of China. In August 2018 they merged with the app VideoStar and rebranded the app to TikTok. TikTok is not available in China however the app Douiyn is the TikTok equivalent app in China, and its servers are based in countries where the app is available. TikTok owner ByteDance is a $75 billion Chinese tech giant. At the beginning of 2019 it had 188 million new users.

Who uses it and how did it become successful?

TikTok is available in 154 countries worldwide with 500 million users. 41% of users are aged between the age of 16-24, 55.6% of users are Male and 44.4% are female. India has many users (which is interesting because it is banned in India), and accounts for approximately 25% of app downloads. TikTok is intended for 13+ users according to the app's community guidelines. The app can be safe for teens with proper parental guidance. It is successful because social media is a big thing these days and young people are embracing it because it is easy to use and entertaining.

It became successful due to the rise of social media through the use of phones and devices. TikTok’s success is largely due to the popularity of Musical.ly. It is currently the most popular app in the USA with over 26 million monthly active users. There are many famous people that use the app such as; Britney Spears, Will Smith, Gordon Ramsay and The Rock. These famous celebrities bring attention to the app from their reputations and fan following.

Where and why did it get banned?

TikTok has been banned in two different countries; India and Indonesia. In both countries the governments felt that it encouraged inappropriate content and was targeting youth and children. Both countries rescinded the bans after TikTok implemented safety protocols and age verification policies. Currently TikTok is not banned in any countries.

How do you use it?

1. Download the app and sign up.

2. Set up your profile.

3. View the video feed.

Ariana Grande- Butera

Early Life

Ariana Grande-Butera is a determined 26 year old singer, songwriter and actress. Ariana Grande was born in a deluxe city located in Florida, called Boca Raton on the 26th of June in 1993. Ariana is the fortunate daughter of Joan Grande and Edward Butera. Grande has a hardworking older half-brother named Frankie Grande, and also has a close relationship with her loving grandmother (Marjorie Grande), who she prefers to call “Nonna”. The successful singer attended Pine Crest School and North Broward Preparatory School. As a child, Ariana Grande performed in theatres, musicals, cruise ships, orchestras and impressively even on national television! Ariana performed the national anthem of the United States for the Florida Panthers (a professional ice hockey team) on national television at the age of 8. By the age of 13, Grande was very serious about pursuing her music career, whilst still concentrating on theater. In 2008, the singer was given a supporting role of a cheerleader named Charlotte, in the musical “13” on Broadway.

TV Shows And Movies
Ariana Grande was cast in the well-known Nickelodeon TV Shows- Victorious and Sam & Cat! Ariana played the role of Cat Valentine, which meant she had to dye her naturally curly, brunette hair red every every other week for the role, because the executive producer did not want all the members of  the cast to be brunettes. This destroyed Grande’s hair because of the years of bleaching and dying her hair. Surprisingly, one of the singer’s co-stars in Victorious also performed in the musical “13” on Broadway. Also, Grande’s other co-star, Jennette McCurdy (who played Sam Puckett on Sam & Cat) has the exact same birthday as Ariana, just one year apart! Ariana has also starred in multiple movies and TV shows and has done voice-overs for cartoon characters. Some of these movies and TV shows include Snowflake, Underdogs, Swindle, Zoolander 2, Scream Queens, Winx Club and Hairspray Live!
Songs, Albums and Awards
According to Google and Wikipedia, Ariana has released at least 62 songs, 5 studio albums, 1 compilation album, 1 remix album, 2 extended plays, seven promotional singles and forty music videos. The singer released her debut single “Put Your Hearts Up” in December 2011. Grande’s albums include Yours Truly, My Everything, Dangerous Woman, Sweetener and Thank U, Next. Ariana Grande has collaborated with many artists including Iggy Azalea, Big Sean, Jessie J, Victoria Monet and many more!
